Since September 22, we can see it aired on AXN in the second season of the show “Crossing Lines”, which portrays Carl Hickman, at the head of the Crime Bureau (ICC), an elite police unit, tracking cross-border crime throughout Europe.
William Fichtner in an interview with Polish Virtual cheating, why not watch movies with your participation, as doing without social media and Danny DeVito’s why he would jump into the fire.
Margaret Steciak: It is said of you that you’re character actor. Sometimes you appear in only one scene, but his unmatched charisma often outshines the stars.
William Fichtner: Three times I happened to appear on the screen in only one scene: In “The Dark Knight”, “Crash” and “Pearl Harbor.” On the last episode of the film agreed to as part of a friendly favor to Michael Bay, with whom I worked on “Armageddon”. I do not consider myself an expert on specific roles. It is not so that every morning I stand before the mirror and say: “this is who I am. I am a character actor. “To be absolutely honest, in such situations, I rather think that I’m the guy who just wants to work on the greatest number of good projects. Do not pigeonhole your work, do not I attach a patch. To do this, I would probably spend much more time on wondering who I am, and why I do what I do.
You are very modest as an actor with such impressive achievements.
Believe me, I worked with countless actors are in love and their profiles in social media. Watch all the movies with your participation, we still wonder about their place in the show-business puzzle. It’s not my story. I just want to work, spend time perfecting my skills and work on his part. Honestly not even watched all the movies and TV series with its participation. I am very critical towards each other.
Do you have an account on Twitter or Facebook?
Do not. Too I value your privacy, so they assume. I do not see the point in sharing information with the world that just ate a ham sandwich and washed it down with her good Polish beer [laughs]. I do not want people to know what I had for breakfast! I do not care if I’m on Twitter, or not. Often, I meet up with friends and a moment later our common stock lands on Facebook and my buddy, instead of dealing with conversation, see how much people liked his last entry. This is for me far too much information at once.
How did the TV series “Crossing Lines”?
As it usually happens in such situations, my agent called me one day with a proposition starring role in the series. I liked the script and thought that I would be interested. There was only one problem: the images were formed in Prague. The project madly liked it, but I decided that I will not be able to leave the family to live most of the year in the Czech Republic. Later I had the opportunity to meet the creator of the series, Edward Allen Burnero, and very przypadliśmy hit it, so I decided to take a chance. I told my wife that accept the role under one condition: if we will move with the kids to Europe. The rest is history [laughs]. I love Prague, this place has become my second home and I would love to stay here for longer. I live in the Czech Republic for almost three years, my children go to school here. It’s a piece of my life.
Carl Hickman is the next in your career figure with a dark past, strongly experienced by fate. What draws you to these characters?
It seems to me that these characters are simply more credible. They provide food for thought, inspiration for continuous operation on the figure. Their weakness makes them look more kindly eye, identify with their problems. None of us is not black and white, each with their own ears. I played in his career many police officers and after a while I became in this practice. It’s never the heroes of superhuman abilities, I like to play guys who are just smart. Where the ordinary man sees only a disjointed glass, an experienced cop sees a scrap of material or imprint, which sets a new direction in the investigation and consequently leads to solve a very complicated puzzle.
You’re an actor, which efficiently combines work on plans for major Hollywood blockbusters such as “Elysium” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” with smaller, independent productions. At the premiere of waiting for your latest film “St. Sebastian “, a low budget horror film directed by Danny DeVito.
I have no idea what the fate of this project. We shot this video with Danny about three years ago. Danny is indeed an amazing guy and I love to work with him. I swear, is my favorite person from the film industry! We met, among others, on the plans’ Day of Atonement “and” hit-sealed “. Some time ago I was visiting my son in college and suddenly called me Danny. “Hey, man, I have an idea for a movie, listen, you need to enter it with me, great stuff, we do not have any money,” he said. “Yyyy … well, sure, why not,” I replied before I could think about what I was getting into. “You’ll like it, I tell you, we have no time at all,’ll shoot full yardage in about 14 days. Need a trailer? We have no money in the budget, but it’s nothing, I bring you my “, he added, and he did. It was fantastic. We had no money, we were shooting in almost amateur conditions, but powtórzyłbym this adventure with him every day.
Probably not often happen in show business such friendships?
I must tell you an anecdote about a certain actor, with whom we have worked together with Danny. I will not name his name, I’ll just say that before the shooting, Danny asked daily whether X already come with their FP - false friends. That’s what I love about this guy: it is painfully honest and unpretentious. Surrounds himself with people he likes to work and take care of them as next of kin. Whenever we meet on set, invites the whole crew over for dinner. It’s incredibly rare in this industry. I love this guy.
Work on modest projects with friends is a way to rebound after budget action involving celebrities?
I love my job and always put in her whole heart. I hate drama, I have no place in your life, appreciate the peace of mind. Is my job is fun? Of course it is, but let’s be - much better I play, when after a hard day I go out for a beer to my favorite bar. By the way I have to see if they have a Polish beer [laughs].
